Domestic appliance categories and types of gas work covered are as follows:
I am Gas Safe registered for all of the above categories of work - as required by law under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.
I am qualified and Gas Safe registered to work on Natural Gas installations and appliances (i.e. where gas is supplied from the 'mains' in the street) and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) installations and appliances (i.e. where propane or butane gas is supplied in cylinders or from a bulk storage tank).
Alterations to existing gas-fired central heating systems such as:
Maintenance and repairs to existing gas-fired central heating systems such as:
Competence in vented and unvented gas-fired systems (i.e. hot water storage cylinders);
Servicing, maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on existing systems;
Member of Gas Safe competent person self-certification scheme, enabling self-certification of compliance with Building Regulations for work involving vented and unvented cylinders.
To keep them in a safe condition, all gas appliances should be regularly checked and maintained by a competent person who is Gas Safe registered. Although not a substitute for having your appliances serviced and checked regularly, additional protection can be obtained by the installation of carbon monoxide alarms, especially where open-flued or flueless gas appliances are installed.
In England and Wales, the Building Regulations require a carbon monoxide alarm to be fitted when a new gas appliance is installed. (However, this requirement does not apply to gas cooking appliances.) For all existing gas appliances that do not currently have an alarm fitted, an alarm is strongly recommended as a second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is advisable to fit a carbon monoxide alarm in every room containing a gas appliance. Smoke alarms are similar in appearance to carbon monoxide alarms, but they do not detect carbon monoxide.
As an optional extra to any servicing or maintenance work I undertake, I can supply and install one or more BSI Kitemarked and CE marked battery operated carbon monoxide detectors to EN 50291, with a working life of at least 5 years.
